“Kouri Ocean Tower” Surprising Giant Observation Tower (82 m above Sea Level) Opened on Kouri Island, the Key Sightseeing Spot in the North

In November of 2013, a new type of tourism complex “Kouri Ocean Tower”was opened on Kouri Island (in Nakijin Village), which is known for its most “Churaumi (beautiful ocean)”on the main Okinawa island.
The main attraction is, of course, its symbol “Observation Tower.” All I can say is spectacular to see a panoramic view from the tower, 82 m above the sea level (The tower itself is 36 m tall.) Without any question, this is the first time Okinawa has provided an overwhelming view over a transparent, shining, emerald green Eastern China Sea, Haneji Inland Sea, and Okinawa’s longest (as of May, 2014) Kouri Oohashi Bridge (about 2 km).
The observation tower is a four-storied building. Each floor has an observation room, so you don’ have to worry about the bad weather.
The feature is not only the observation tower, but a fantastic exhibit of a full-scaled “Shell Museum,”which has a collection of more than 10,000 shells around the world, is intensely interesting. A shop built attached to the museum sells shell accessories, so you can stop by here for souvenir shopping.
A restaurant “Ocean Blue,”which serves dishes using Okinawa-grown vegetables. Their recommendation is an authentic pizza baked in a kiln with 500℃ (1,200 yen ～). Green Curry is also popular (1,000 yen ～).
On sunny days, please come out on the terrace to enjoy their dishes with sea breeze.
Of course, a grommet & shopping facilities necessary for sightseeing are available, including a shop dealing with Kouri island original goods and sweets. You feel fresh to find a cart which takes you to the main facility with unattended automatic operation on the crooked path in the garden, where you can enjoy Easter lilies in full bloom in urizun (February to April).
A wedding facility will be built for the next year.
Now you have another choice for drive and sightseeing spots in the north!
