Okinawa and Hawai’i Have a Lot in Common! Introducing a Touch of Hawai’i on Okinawa!

Hawai’i is known around the world as a popular resort destination, and Okinawa is definitely the first place that would pop up when we think of resorts in Japan. The warm climate, the beautiful seas, and the wide and abundant varieties of tropical fruits are some of the things that Okinawa has in common with Hawai’i. In this article, we’ll introduce a little piece of Hawai’i that you can find in Okinawa.

Aloha Shirts for a Relaxing Resort Time

The first place we’d like to introduce is Mountain, a shop that offers a wide range of Aloha Shirts in Naha. In the summers in Okinawa, you’ll see many people wearing Kariyushi Wear shirts which are very similar to Aloha Shirts. Kariyushi Wear shirts can easily be mistaken for Aloha Shirts and sometimes it’s hard to spot the difference at first glance. At Mountain, they offer a great selection of new and used Aloha Shirts imported directly from Hawai’i.

The used shirts on sale at the shop are thoroughly checked by the owner, making sure that they’re clean and in good condition. The shop usually has about 600 selections and at times, they have a whopping 1,000 shirts to choose from. The prices are reasonable and you can pick up a great shirt without breaking the bank.

The shop is popular among the locals, and even people from Tokyo come all this way to visit and shop at Mountain. There are so many varieties of colors and designs, so take your time and enjoy looking around.

Hawai’ian Lunch with Okinawan Ingredients

If you’re looking for a great place for lunch on Okinawa’s popular Kokusai Street that’s lined with souvenir shops, then how about Rooftop Grill & Bar KAIMANA? It’s located on the top floor of the building where Don Quijote is, and they offer a great selection of menu items including eggs benedict, French toast, acai bowl, steaks, and other Hawai’ian style dishes prepared with lots of Okinawan ingredients.

When wondering what to order if you want something light, the KAIMANA Brunch Plate comes with a pitaya bowl (or acai bowl), salad, and muffin. They also have an extensive selection of wine, so for dinner, enjoy their aged beef dish that serves Yamashiro Beef, a brand of local Kuroge Wagyu Beef together with wine.

Beautiful hibiscus flowers are found everywhere, both in Okinawa and Hawai’i, adding to the tropical atmosphere. On Iejima Island, an island that’s located just 30 minutes away by ferry, is Iejima Hibiscus Garden, where visitors can enjoy seeing over 1,000 different strains of hibiscus.

The Garden grounds extend across 1,620m2 and filled with hibiscus flowers of white, yellow, red, pink…These colorful and gorgeous hibiscus are also available for purchase.
