A café in wide-mouthed limestone cave!?
Several hundred thousand years ago the Valley of Gangala was made by a cave that collapsed in Nanjo, Okinawa. In the entrance there is a café that is open to the public called “Cave Café”.
The moment you step in to the cave you are surrounded by cold air, and on a hot tropical day in Okinawa it can be a comfortable way to spend the day. The stalactites hanging from the ceiling feel like a mystery of nature and will for sure be a fantastical way to spend time!
At the café I got a vibrantly pink hibiscus soda and sweet potato chips made from local purple sweet potatoes. Other than that you can get coffee using water from under the ground of the cave and a Nihede Beer microbrew which is made in Nanjo City.
It was my first time seeing this souvenir, Caveman Chest Hair. It is a souvenir that will make you laugh without thinking, and it is very popular. It is actually mozuku seaweed soup. How about getting a pack?
So what’s next! At the café in the cave they have regular live performances.
A live performance inside a cave is something you can only experience here. There are also photo exhibitions and showings of films so check the homepage. According to the guides, the walking tour of the Valley of Gangala (reservation needed) is also popular, and it is a journey that connects life since ancient times.
Come and experience the mystery of nature.
