Used Bookstore Urara in the Market
Colorful fruits, blessings of the sea, crowds of tourist and the lively people of the marketplace. In this lively place, there is a small, unassuming bookstore.
The name of that bookstore is “Ichiba no Urara Furuhonya” (lit Marketplace Used Bookstore Urara). The store manager is Tomoko Uda, who relocated to Okinawa as part of the opening staff for Junkudo Naha.
Even though she had never gone to Okinawa before, but when was staffed in the Okinawa book corner, from all the books based off the one region of Okinawa, she started to become interest in Okinawa.
At that time she felt it would be interesting if she sold books about Okinawa in Okinawa.
This actually used to be the used bookstore Tokufuku-do. One day she heard that they were looking for someone to inherit the shop and Tomoko threw her hat in to the ring. She quit her job at Junkudo and become the store manager of this small bookstore.
There are a lot of people coming and going, including the people of the market, tourists and locals. In the front of the shop there are many types of books on Okinawa: cultural, historical, special features magazines and sightseeing books. There is plenty in the lineup that will let you know about things may not be aware of, even if you live in Okinawa. They cannot only be for personal use but would also make interesting presents.
You can read about the circumstances about which she opened the used bookstore and the everyday of the market in her book “Naha no Ichiba de Furuhonya” (lit A Bookstore in Naha Market) (Border Ink).Of course, you can buy it in her shop and bookstores all over the country, so if you are interested pick it up.
