“You can find paste made using 100% peanuts from Okinawa. And it tastes awesome!”

Recommended by a friend of mine, I bought the paste at the product exhibition several months ago.

Immediately after arriving home, I opened the silver top of the jar to take one scoop of the paste.  It is melty paste of soft, skin color just like peanuts themselves.

When I lick it, sticky, richly-textured paste gives out savory flavor through my nose.  Hmm…. This tastes excellent!

The ingredient is only peanuts.  The paste is additive-free and color-free.

As sweetener like sugar is not added to the paste, it has a pure, simple taste, and you can feel the richly, savory taste of peanuts directly spreads in your mouth.

First, I spread the paste on the bread, dressed vegetables with the paste, and…it was finished quickly before I knew it.  I wanted to buy one more jar, but the product exhibition was already over, so I visited “TE+TE pantry” in Nago City.

This is an antenna shop of “Next Stage Okinawa Limited Liability Company.”

The shop deals in processed products using ingredients in Okinawa such as hot pepper, dried papaya, pickled dried tomatoes in olive oil, etc.

One of the products is “Peanut Paste.”  The company grows peanuts outdoors, dries them in the sun, sorts them out, dries them at low temperature, removes thin skins by hand, and makes them into paste with stone mortar-style mill.

When they mill the peanuts very carefully with the stone mortar-style mill carefully, less friction heat is caused, and paste with savory aroma and flavor will be made.

I learned that the moving moment when I tasted the first scoop came from all the burdensome work.

Please take a look at that pastes are made from precious peanuts grown in Okinawa.

The ingredient of “jiimamii dofu (tofu-like food made from peanut and starch)” a famous product of Okinawa, is also peanuts, but they say that the production lags demand and most of the peanuts for the jiimamii dofu is from overseas.

As only a few amount of peanuts are cultivated in Okinawa now, they wanted to spread the deliciousness by making the peanut paste getting the most out of the savory taste of it.

Now you will see that you can use the Peanut Paste in many ways according to your taste.  The president of Next Stage Okinawa, Ms. Keiko Kinjo introduced us an easy recipe of Peanut Dressing.

To make the dressing, you will mix the same amount of peanut paste, olive oil, lemon juice respectively.  You can add soy sauce or mayonnaise as you please.  And then, season the dressing with salt and pepper.

The Peanut Dressing goes perfectly well with fresh vegetables, so you can enjoy salad as much as you like.  In addition to the dressing, I sprinkled the Peanut Paste over the salad.

As for other recipes, you can add dashijiru (a kind of Japanese soup stock) and miso paste to the Peanut Paste to sprinkle over “ohitashi”*1 or “tofu no shiroae”*2.

When you dilute miso with mentsuyu (noodle soup base) and add sugar, the Peanut Paste, and water, you will use the mixture for a richly-taste sauce for shabu shabu*3.

*1 Ohitashi is a variety of leaf vegetable that has been blanched, served cold with a dashi-shoyu broth.
*2 Tofu no shiroae is a traditional tofu dish in which various ingredients are mixed with seasoned mashed tofu.
*3 Shabu shabu is a Japanese dish featuring thinly sliced beef boiled in water.

In my house, we spread the Peanut Paste on the bread and sprinkle honey over it, what we call Peanut Honey Toast, is a popular recipe.
If you add chopped banana to make it sandwich, it tastes exquisite.♪

You can use the Peanut Paste for both of Japanese style recipes and Western-style recipes.
You can enjoy it with bread, and it might taste good if you add it to the cookie mixture and bake it.
The flavor created carefully with lots of affection will surely delight your friends or family as a souvenir.

Please savor the paste made using precious peanuts cultivated in Yanbaru.
