Known as a home town of a professional golfer, Ai Miyazato, Higashi Village is an idyllic village in the northern part of mainland Okinawa.  In the area where a great nature still remains, “Park of Flowers and Bamboo” is in the quiet higher ground of about 60m above sea level.  “Okinawa Kaguyahime,” which was opened in 2004 and has a total area of 30,000 tsubo (about 99.17km2 ), is the only rose garden and the largest hibiscus garden in Okinawa.

In addition to that, you can enjoy a variety of seasonal flowers throughout the year as well as enjoy camping and staying at a wooden cottage.

Since you are in Okinawa in the subtropical region, you will find about 300 hibiscuses, a representative flower in the southern land, before you go any further.

Hibiscus, which has been loved by the nickname of “akabanaa” in Okinawa, has 200 species with different colors of red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, white, etc.

You can appreciate each species with the most brightly-colored and big petals from October to July.

A different face of the Okinawa Kaguyahime is a rose garden, where 1,500 roses of 100 species from the world show you enchanting expressions from October to June.

Also from February to June, you can view flower gardens planted with different species of flowers of the southern land.  From January to May, cosmos fields are lovely to see, so the Okinawa Kaguyahime is full of colorful, different species of large and small throughout the year.

The main building where the reception is found, has a shop and a restaurant.

It is perfect to buy a small souvenir of something you can find only in Higashi Village such as seasonal vegetables, fresh fruit, bamboo craft, wooden craft, charcoal, and various kinds of flowers including rose, azalea, etc.

The popular menu item in the restaurant is “Souki soba (noodle with pork spare rib),” which has a richly-flavored soup of bonito flakes, pork bones, chicken bone (500 yen, tax included).

After simmered for hours, soft, melting souki is thick and substantialicious.

It is a hearty meal and gives you a lot of stamina, which helps you to survive the summer heat.

And for the dessert, “Kintoki Kokuto Zenzai (red kidney beans, brown sugar soup), which is not too sweet and has an old familiar flavor (300 yen, tax included), is recommended.

There are five wooden six-person capacity cottages (7,560 yen or more for 2 adults for one room per night, tax included).  You can spend a comfortable stay here, furnished with a toilet, a shower, TV, a kitchen, air conditioning.

The camping ground where you can feel cool breeze through the hill has a shared kitchen, shared toilets, and coin-operated shower (2,100 yen for one tent per night, tax included).

In summer, this place is crowded with families enjoying BBQ (1,500 yen for ingredient for one person, tax included).

Primary-colored flowers bloom with a background of indigo blue water of Arume Bay.
This superb combination is perfect for you to stay with family members or close friends to enjoy a relaxed time.
