Meet Mrs. Goya ♪

In Makishi, Naha there is a cute store with a blue and white exterior called “Okinawa Wind”. It is a boutique shop for miscellaneous art goods. The store is filled with goods that show the shining individuality of artists that in Okinawa.

It is a gathering of art goods that are new while still having an Okinawan feel. They are all wonderful pieces that show the thoughts and excitement of the creator.

When you enter the shop the shop’s poster girl (?) Mrs. Goya greets everyone.

The Okinawan treats “nomanju” and “sataandagi” have been previously introduced on Okinawa clip. Okinawa Wind has them as cute characters from Kariyushi Store. From left to right it is: Grandpa Sataanda, Mrs. Goya, and Nomanday They are self standing dolls. So cute.

The lax feeling “Okinawa Omoshiro Karuta” from Road Works’ Morito Toyonaga is also very popular. Why not enjoy playing karuta while learning more about Okinawa?

The bingata shoes are on a completely different level. You’ll want to get them all.

These are some items from the bingata artist Yuuka Arakaki from Ryuka Bingata. There are small items made from bingata fabric that was dyed with the utmost care, so there no two pieces that are exactly alike. They are items that you carry around with you at all times, so that is lucky.

Okinawa Wind Original’s “Ryukyu Hanpu” is an Okinawan canvas brand that is focused on materials and sewing. Even among the high quality canvas in the Japanese market, it has and especially beautiful texture and uses the excellent Kurashiki canvas. And also focusing on traditional sewing techniques from Okinawa, they are each made by the hands of craftsmen one-by-one. Ryukyu Hanpu also collaborates with different artists in Okinawa so that is some to look out for as well. There is also the fun of choosing from a wide selection of goods.

Looking at the cute, colorful goods will lift your spirits. There are many items by artists in Okinawa but I unfortunately could not introduce them all so go there and search for things by your favorite artist.
