Soft Form of Glassware Feels Cool and Gently Warm
post : 2014.11.24 12:00
A blow glass workshop called “Ruri” is located in Yomitan Village in Okinawa.
A glassware artist of the workshop, Ms. Ikuko Onoda whose nickname is Iikuu-san, produces glassware that has a thick, feminine soft form. Her products feels delicate, transparently cool yet warm and gentle.
Ryukyu Glass ware, which is made using recycled glass from old bottles such as awamori (Okinawan alcohol) bottles, is characteristically thick. Especially each of Iikuu-san’s glassware has a slight difference in shape and color, and has such a unique texture that you might want to hold each in your palms gently.
Iikuu-san became an apprentice with a celebrated artist of Ryukyu Glass, Seikichi Inamine, and after discipline in “Blow Glass in the Air Workshop Niji (rainbow)” for about 11 years, she worked independently. Every day she produces her glassware in a foreigner’s residence, which is unusual as a glassware workshop.
This is “Momotsuchi Glass.”
This glassware gives you a magic, mat feeling of the coolness and transparency of glass and the texture of clay. The glassware is produced by the technique of blowing glass after adding water-dissolved clay to the surface, which creates cracks on the surface of clay covering the glass.
Finished patterns are unspeakably beautiful!
What kind of people are at the table? What kind of table is it?
She makes glassware while thinking of a scene where her prospective customers using her products.
“My glassware is good enough if you think it leaves something to be desired.”
She prefers food and drink to stand out more than her glassware. She creates her glassware to come out as “supporting character” rather than “main character” at a table.
I would like you to use glassware from “Blow Glassware Workshop Ruri” to create a cool atmosphere at your table and add color to the warmth of your table.♪
