Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni Zoo is located in Okinawa city, Okinawa prefecture.

This park has a plenty of green nature, and there are Zoo
and Wonder Museum (children's museum) in an extensive space.
This Zoo is located in the most southern part of Japan and named "Nature Land" where many kinds of
big animals such as elephants, giraffes and hippopotamus are kept.
These animals used to range from Tanegashima island to Yonaguni island (Ryukyu range).

The Zoo has been a popular leisure spot not only for the local people but also for foreigners
who are engaged in the American bases in Okinawa.
Weekday visiting is recommendable as it will be crowded in weekends.
You might be able to see an elephant walking around the facility or the training
of running Yonaguni horse.which you can not see in weekends.

In Nature Land, you can see Okinawa original animals and the followings are some lovely animals;

In Ark Okimaru in Zoo area, you can see Okinawa original animals.
You  will be surprised to see the Magabat which range over Okinawa mainland
as well as the remote islands.
The wild Megabats can also be seen along the route 58 in the evening.
They become active in feeding time at 16:00 and it is very exciting to see them fly to the feed.

You can also see the Spilornis cheela that range over Ishigaki island and Iriomote island.
This is registered as the Natural Monument.

The wide spread wings are very beautiful and elegant.
The Zoo cares for wounded Spilornis cheela and release to their wild life  when they are cured.

Fureai Hiroba  is located on the east side of the Zoo and you can enjoy touching
and feeding to small animals such as Marmots and Goats there.

You can not miss to see Okinawan goat with lovely eyes!

The Daito Dog was brought to Daito island from the immigrants in almost 100 years ago,
and since then, they made evolution to the current figure of short legs within the limited island range.
Now only some 20 dogs remain and it is a very precious dog to see.

There are also reptile, ostrich, lion and anteater in the Zoo and you might be able to see
their feeding view(Mogu Mogu Watching).

Time passes slowly here and you can feel at ease.
It is a nice attraction to see lively faces of various animals here in the Nature Land under
the tropical climate.
