If you would like to stroll untouristy area, this might be good spot to look around.

Just walk into off street in downtown Ishigaki, the atmosphere completely got changed. Shisa on red-tiled roof, coral stonewall, variety of primary colors of flowers, and tropical fruits.

Bananas, mangoes, papayas, pomegranate fruits, star fruits, acerolas, and mulberries and in the residential area.

Star fruits born on the trees. Some mangoes are bit by birds, it's naturally grown. I am from out of Okinawa, so the tropical fruits and the old traditional folk houses are unfamiliar with me. Pomegranate fruits are all over the place. Not many people eat the fruits that is popularly used for food material and cosmetics. I feel "Mottainai". It's a waste to unuse.

Old folk houses with red-tiled roof are artistic. I have seen the old style houses less and less the last three years. I feel regret for that.

This is "Cuora flavomarginata" we often see. They are designated as an endangered species, and inhabit Ishigaki and Iriomote area. The tortoise showed up just outside of my office.

It has been eight years since I moved in Ishigaki Island, I like to stroll around unfamiliar area, and always wanting to discover all of the island. In April, ruddy kingfishers start singing. Red body and beak are so beautiful. Not only forest or park, you can hear the sing in residential area. Let's listen for it.
