Saori Higa opened a little H. in Haebaru Town in August, 2016. Various household goods are sold at her store and every one of them is her favorite.
The “H” in the shop's name stands for “happy, healing and home.” She wants customers to be happy and relaxed in the shop.
Indeed, as soon as you open the door, the relaxation begins. A sweet and refreshing aroma from rush grass harvested in Teruma, Uruma City welcomes you. The grass is cultivated without any agricultural chemicals and the aroma is intense—almost as though it comes from a diffuser.
Higa used to work for a construction company. Even though she was content in her job, her passion for household goods encouraged her to opening her own store.
About 60 different items on display are for sale
My eye was caught by plates made in a local pottery studio Akane Toubou. The plates were decorated with images of hazy (kasumi in Japanese) mornings. The kasumi series impressed me with the soft grays and earthy texture. They are some of the most popular items.
Flower wreathes and swags from flower shop Detail full in Kanagusuku, Naha City can’t be missed. It is fun to imagine decorating a home with them.
Higa used to travel around in Tokyo or Fukuoka to see beautiful household items. She works with both local and mainland vendors.
Baskets made with water plants make beautiful ornaments. Also, HARIO brand coffee drippers, pots made with Nanbu iron and other nice items can come in handy.
Higa values inspiration when choosing household items—and, she wants customers to do likewise. “I feel happy if you're happy,” she said. “You don’t have to buy anything if nothing strikes your fancy… But, if you find something that inspires you, by all means come and take a look,” she said.
New items are updated from time to time on Instagram. If the pictures interest you, please visit the shop to see them up close.
