Craft Fair Nanjo, where you can connect with artists

“Craft Fair Nanjo” is now held in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa for three days from Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3. 

“Craft Fair Nanjo” is an event where many genres of craft artists who are active in Okinawa get together.  This event celebrates its 4^th anniversary this year, and has been well-received each year.  This year the fair is held during the Golden Week, so it attracts the attention of people and one of recommended events during the holidays. 

Craft artists and workshops that participated in the event were fascinating, and fifty workshops and artists gather, including 18 yachimun (an Okinawan word meaning pottery) workshops, dyed fabrics, woodwork, glass products, music instruments, food, etc.!!

Well, this time I would like to introduce you some from the event this year.

“Thichi One” produces objet and accessories using natural materials including nuts and floating objects.  Pierce shown on the photo are made from fruit of deigo (Indian coral beans)!

If you come here, you can talk to craft artists and hear about their passion for their works.  You may feel more affection for handcraft items.  The best concept of the event is “Treasure the warmth of handcraft items.  To connect, and to be connected.”  Through objects, through conversations, you have a heart warmed feeling.

In addition to that, events of hula dance show, live performance of ocarina and harp will entertain you!  This event is until tomorrow!  Please find your favorite items at Craft Fair Nanjo!

Oh, I found a vehicle exclusively for “Nanji,” yuruchara* of Nanjo City, at the entrance of the event hall!!

*"yuruchara"are anime-style cartoon mascots that represent the various prefectures of Japan.
